Fraud Impersonating PSE&G Employees Rampant in Long Island

Caution is advised as fraudulent phone calls impersonating employees of PSE&G, an electricity and gas supplier, have recently been rampant throughout the Long Island area.

PSE&G LI has urged caution, stating that it has recently received multiple reports of fraudulent activities in which callers impersonate employees, accurately detail the recipient’s PSE&G account information and payment amounts, and threaten to cut off electricity to their residence if the bill is not paid immediately.

For example, one customer explained, “The caller, who had accurate knowledge of my account information and payment amount, demanded that I go to a nearby convenience store and transfer the money immediately. I was told that a separate payment confirmation email would be sent after the transfer, so the call ended, but I never received an email. It was later confirmed that I had fallen victim to fraud.” In response, PSE&G LI stated, “We absolutely never make phone calls to customers threatening to cut off electricity supply due to unpaid bills.”
